Where do interim managers come from anyway? Often found in the business world interim managers are a very specialised type of manager. If a manager leaves or has to take a break, maybe wants a gap year, or when there is no manager available for a special project in the organization the interim managers emerged. These are situations of companies that resort to hiring interim managers to fill the gap. Interim managers are mostly ex-managing directors or experienced consultants that are ready to take any place and adapt to there new situation. So lets discuss what it means to be an interim manager.

Not everyone is happy operating outside the comfort zone of a corporate environment, without the security of a steady source of income, and reliant on their own entrepreneurship and skills to win and successfully execute assignments. Whilst at first sight this may seem somewhat daunting, most who achieve the transition and become career Interims find the lifestyle such that they would not willingly return to permanent status. As with most lifestyle decisions, there are potential advantages and drawbacks that need to be weighed up. Lets consult the different aspects of Interim management to get a better idea of what is required.

Lets have a look at the positives of being in Interim Management. Firstly you are your own boss you decide what jobs you want to take and and which company you want to provide a service for. The challenge of the job, taking on a new business is no walk in the park, you'll have to think preventing any boredom at a job. Not being involved in the office politics you have no personal vested interest to protect. Being able to concentrate on what you do best and many more.

On the other side of the coin there are disadvantages. You don't have guaranteed work if you have a family to support and work is scarce times can be tough. There is no holiday or sick, pay. Jobs that are far away can put some strain on your home life. As you can see there is always to side to every coin however this is an eventuality with every decision in life.
